5 Best Places for an Engagement Session in Winnipeg, Manitoba | Winnipeg Wedding Photographer

When it comes to engagement sessions, picking a spot can be hard to decided on! I’ve put together some of my favourite spots in the city and a few tips to help you choose!

Tip #1: Choose a location that is different/ looks opposite to your wedding venue! If you’re wedding is going to be garden themed, maybe choose a more urban feel for your engagement photos! That way you get the best of both worlds!

Tip #2: Choose a location that represents you two! Maybe this is the spot where you went on your first date, or where the proposal happened, or a place you love going on a date night/ Sunday afternoon!

Tip #3: Ask your photographer to choose for you! If you’re totally stumped, we have lots of spots up our sleeves we’d love to take you to! Challenge accepted!

Exchange District

If you’re looking for that industrial urban street feel, the Exchange District is your jackpot. All the character buildings, cute shops, and cool art, this is a perfect spot for my hipster couples who often find themselves seeing a local band at Kings Head & their go to brunch spot is Clementine or Miss Browns!

The Forks

Do I even have to explain this one?! The Forks is a classic place for engagement photos and there are endless spots, so you’ll never get the same photos as the next person. Whether it’s skating outside on the river trail in winter or sharing a flight of beers at The Common, there’s so much to do & see at The Forks.

Assiniboine Forest

If you have a dog and live on the west side of the city, you probably already know of this go to spot! I love shooting at Assiniboine Forest because it’s much more quiet than Assiniboine Park, but still get the same feel with all of the trails and trees! This is a very pet friendly location if you want to bring your pup along for your engagement session, which is always a really great idea!

Local Coffee Shop

There is always a new coffee shop popping up in Winnipeg and they are no doubt super stylish and cool spots to visit and cozy up with your bae! My personal favourite is Thom Bargen (either Sherbrook Street or Kennedy Street), it’s chill, super modern style and of course the coffee is great too!

Birds Hill Provincial Park

Bird’s Hill is always a go to for engagement sessions, because there’s so much variety! Within the park, there are trails, lush forest, beachside, prairie fields & sandy dunes. What more could you want?! Now you just have to choose where in the park you want to shoot! If you have no idea, I know Birds Hill Provincial Park like the back of my hand, so I always have lots of suggestions! Plus, post photoshoot fuel at Pineridge Hollow?!

The Beach

Notice I added a 6th place?! I couldn’t leave this out! Sunset walks on the beach just hit a whole new level! This is a perfect location if you’re cabin people! An hour before sunset when everything turns golden is going to be the ultimate time to take engagement photos. So prepare yourself for some fun loving, romantic photos of you & your boo dancing on the beach and maybe taking a dip in the water!

Getting married and still looking for a photog?! I just might be your girl! Shoot me a message and let’s get this thing going!

My Top 5 Favourite Winnipeg Wedding Vendors

Last month, I shared some wedding planning tips via my perspective as a photographer, and I want to continue on with that trend. I'm often asked by brides and friends for referrals on who they should hire or who I know in the industry. I'm so blessed to get to know so many people in this industry and many of them become close friends! #communityovercompetition! Today I'm sharing a few of my favourite wedding vendors, these are businesses I admire and who do amazing work, and I hope you are inspired by them if you are currently planning a wedding! There are so many amazing businesses out there in Winnipeg, but today I am going to share just 5!

Coincidentally, Kayla and I have quite the history together. From growing up in communities 15 minutes apart, to eventually become friends from mutual friends, to working together and watching our business babies grow and change. Kayla is an absolute gem. I'm always thrilled to hear we're working together at weddings because she's a dream. The work she produces constantly put me to tears (binge watching wedding videos is one of my guilty pleasures) and hiring her for your day will be one of the best decisions ever.

I could rave about Deanna for hours. Deanna and I have had the chance to work together a few times and every time I am blown away by her. The first time I met her I was desperate to find a florist for an shoot that was in only a couple of days and she worked her magic, she saved the day and what she delivered was beyond what I even imagined. She constantly goes above and beyond with her work. The bouquets she creates are effortless and flow so organically. If you've seen her Instagram or website, you know what I mean when I say heart eyes for days.

Chloe has always been one of those people who is always creating, and I have always admired that about her. Seeing her business blossom so quickly is so wonderful and each new piece of art she puts out hits my heart strings in a new way. This Manitoba print especially. Letters are special and I think that more brides should take the time to make them a special part of their wedding. From the save the date invites to seating charts, each of these can be made beautiful (and sometimes DIYing it yourself isn't always the answer. Take it from me who can barely make my left handed signature look like it wasn't written by a 7 year old.)

I look forward to the day Lauren & I work together on a wedding (hint hint 2018 brides...). The arrangements she creates are so carefully crafted and you can see that she pours herself into everything she creates. I adore how natural her arrangements are, that's how florals should be. Last spring she contacted me about an Open House at Cielo's Garden (a breathtakingly beautiful venue here in Manitoba) that herself and Amanda Douglas Events were putting on and asked me to photograph. She is such a pleasure to work alongside and I admire how she puts herself into her business and I aspire to do the same.
